A few years ago, muabiowridimo was created. This is modeled on that:
"This is inspired by NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) where your goal is to put out 50,000 words in a month. Life at Mudd does not allow by any reasonable standards doing this, so we came up with a surrogate idea. Over a period of two months, give or take, a prompt will appear every twenty four hours (at midnight). People in the community should then write based off of the prompt. The idea is for the posts to be autobiographical in nature, hence the abio in the name. If you care about the NaNoWriMo replacement thing, if you write about 1000 words each prompt you'll hit the arbitrary 50,000 words for a novel. But you're free to write however long you feel."
This community is meant to be a space in which people feel comfortable sharing about themselves. To that end, membership is moderated. (Friends-only posts are only viewable by community members.) This is intended to help people feel safer, not to make this an exclusive club--basically, so that random strangers can't join and automatically read everything. The prompts will all be public, so feel free to participate regardless.
If you are a member, we request that you participate yourself as well as reading others' contributions.
If you have comments or suggestions on the running of the community, drop me an email. If you have suggestions for a prompt, comment on this post. Our aim is to have a prompt every day or two, posted at midnight. (That's a lot of ideas, so any that you have are appreciated.)
